Assorted Update (with more FX pictures)

I've been half-assedly preparing a workshop on Character Creation for my lady-writers group. I worked on it for a couple of days, drawing up notes from my old writing classes (mainly, the best writing class I ever took with the best professor I ever had (my BAE - Best Advisor Ever, Tony), printed off copies of an intense interview for characters, and then put it on the back burner to pursue another project. I'll be hosting the workshop tomorrow afternoon at Boulder Coffee.

The other project is mostly finished. It's a favour for Jeff Miller - I'm putting together a couple of acting reels for him. Some of the videos I have (one particularly good piece I really wanted to use) are poor quality rips, so I had to cut them... still reconsidering putting them back in, though. I handed off the first draft two days ago, and yesterday got some good feedback. Will be tweaking soon. I can't wait til I'm able to show it, because even the first draft is a proud achievement (not only because I am learning Adobe Premiere this way).

Picked up a few extra shifts at work over the summer. That's a stroke of good news, considering I'm just barely keeping my head over water since accidentally spending all my money in Toronto last month. When I finally had the scratch to put a little money toward the phone bill, I accidentally hit the wrong button and paid the whole thing! So I had to call it in and say WOAH DUDE. They took care of it, and I put down $70, as I intended. I was also informed that both phones on my bill were eligible for FREE iPhone 5c models, and took them up on that (never would have known about the month-long deal). This is Charles's first iphone. Welcome.

Ron flew out to Malaysia on Sunday, and thus breaking the nice loooong streak of us spending a lot of time together. I invited him out to Natural Oasis (my first time to that one) for some delicious Ethiopian food. He returns next (not this) Sunday.

The Future (tm) includes a craft sale thing my cousin suckered me into next weekend, a Dixieland music picnic thing (in which Ron is performing), and Jazz Fest with Ron.

Now for pictures. I've been meaning to do a Laura Palmer, Wrapped in Plastic picture for MANY years (even had plans to be her for Halloween back when I was blonde). So here it is. It's a little more on the warm (colours) side than I'd have liked it to be, but I mostly like the turnout- except!
This is the first of my fx pictures that are 'shopped - I had TERRIBLY dry skin on and around my nose, and I didn't realize it til I'd already gotten most of the makeup on (I work outer to inner). So I did a little damage control before posting the photo. I also desaturated the little bit of neck that I didn't cover in makeup (attempted to cover it in plastic, but a little peaked through).

This next one I'm putting under a cut, because it is a potential trigger.
I made a failed bruise a little while ago, but wanted to see what I could make on the face (and wanted to see what I could do with the shitty yellow if I added a powder to it to make it more of a cream - it almost worked, but I still need to replace it). The result was a huge mess, but like all my failures, I kept going with it to see what it could become. I attempted to use a little bit of wax putty, but that didn't fly right either (might have been my own fault on that - will try something different later).
Anyway, the bruises and blood (and running mascara) are fake. The tears are real - specifically for this photo, I watched "Jurassic Bark" (if you don't know this episode of Futurama, think of the Sarah McLachlan animal abuse commercials and triple the punch).

And now I'm off for brunch.

Thanks for the link to the intense character interview, it should come in useful!

Nice Laura Palmer! Would definitely make a superb Halloween costume.

I almost forgot to link it, too!
And thanks :D Hopefully I'll have drank enough water to not dry out my skin next time ;)

The Future (tm) includes ... Boston at some point?!

Twin Peaks! Why is it popping up everywhere lately? I think I may want to go back and rewatch at some point. It used to be one of my first encounters with Western television, at the tender age of well below 10. I don't remember much, but I think it definitely shaped me ...
